GRANTS

Although the District is statutorily authorized to provide façade grants and incentives to utilize vacant buildings, upper floors and land, and aide in sidewalk repairs, the District does not have an operational grant program at this time.

FUNDING

Pursuant to La. R.S. 25:799(F) and La. R.S. 25:799(D)(1)(c), the District is authorized to acquire gifts and grants,and receive and/or apply, contract and expend for its purposes any appropriation or grant from the state of Louisiana, itspolitical subdivisions, the federal government, or any other public or private source.

For the fiscal year 2007-2008, the Louisiana Legislature appropriated $50,000 to the District. (See Programs to review how the appropriated funds were expended.) For the fiscal year 2008-2009, the Louisiana Legislature appropriated $1,000,000.00 to the District, but the appropriation was vetoed by the Governor.

In 2008, the District also received donations, including $8,000.00 from the Vieux Carre Alliance and $14,000 for a pilot Safety Ranger Program. The District would like to recognize and thank the Safety Ranger Program donors for their generous donations for this project:

• Pat O’Brien’s donated $5,000.00;
• Berger Co. donated $5,000.00;
• French Quarter Citizens, Inc., donated $1,000.00;
• Lower Quarter Crime Watch, Inc. , donated $1,000.00;
• French Quarter Business Association of Louisiana donated $1,000.00; and
• Vieux Carre Property Owners, Residents and Associates, Inc., donated $1,000.00.
